History of Civcon

CIVCON  – group has an extensive past in Construction Business dating back from the year 1963.

The company was started by Sri Susanta Kumar Dutta and Sri Diptimoy Mazumdar , both graduated from Bengal Engineering College (Presently known as IIEST) in the year 1957 . After a short stint in an engineering construction company as Student Engineer , both proceeded to England for higher studies where Sri Dutta acquired post graduation in Concrete Technology from University of Leeds while Sri Mazumdar acquired Post graduation in Structural Engineering from Imperial College , London . After some working experience at a design organisation there , both returned back to India in 1962 to join M/s Chatterjee & Polk , a renowned Design and Engineering Company in Kolkata of that time .

Within a short timespan thereafter , CIVCON was formed as a partnership firm by Sri Dutta and Sri Mazumdar in a small office at Ezra Street.

Considering the increasing volume of business Civcon Construction Private Limited was formed on 23-02-1966 at 30 Chowringhee Road , with both Sri Dutta and Sri Mazumdar as Managing Directors . In the year 1969 the office of the CIVCON has shifted from 30 , Chowringhee Road to its present location at 21A, Shakespeare Sarani , Kolkata – 700 017 and by that time had one more Director Late Suniti Bhusan Das . The Company also had Late Prof. Gopal Mitra (Architect), Sri Amar Banerjee (Structural Engineer), Sri Sunil Das (Civil Engineer), Sri Saroj Kumar Kayal (Civil Engineer) and others who had excelled in their respective fields started taking up lots of challenging jobs all over the country .
